Day 1"Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in the way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass". (Psalm 37:7)
Scripture Reading: Psalm 37
Rest, It's a marvelous thing isn't it? But many, even though they rest physically, they have no experience of spiritual rest. Psalm 38:3 says, "... there is no rest in my bones because of my sin." Yet Jeremiah 6:16 reads, "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest to your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein." That's the key is it not? Mankind is not at rest because of their sin, but rest is to be had if they but turn to Christ. For Christians and non-Christians it is the same, emotional, spiritual, mental, even physical rest comes from a heart that is right with God.
Matthew 11:28," Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Verse 29 tells us how to do that, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly of heart: and ye shall find rest for your souls." Man struggles over many problems. Many problems of our own making. It seems that with each new advance of technology, medicine, other revelation or scientific find, brings their own problems making the advancement not as great.
With all our great advances of the last 50 years one would think we would be a nation at rest. A nation which would not need psychiatrists, psychologists and mind-altering medications. Could it be we search for rest of soul in all the wrong places? Could it be instead of spending billions on medicines and doctors care, we need to just turn to the Word of God?
Perhaps we need to get back too simply, "thus saith the Lord." He wants us to trust in Him. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God" (Psalm 20:7).
